Teachers, do you pay for your own apps that you use in the classroom?

I have met a few teachers who are willing to spend a lot of their own money on great educational apps. I’m not talking about apps that every school gets, like iMovie or iWork. I would venture to guess that the majority of teachers that I know would rather not use their own money for something they use for school. I myself have purchased almost all the paid apps myself (besides the ones I receive promo codes for). I don’t mind spending a few dollars here are there on quality educational apps, but am I in the minority? Or are most of you like me? I posed the question on Twitter last night. Here are the responses:

What about you? I would love to hear from you. What’s the most a colleague has spent? Is it possible for your school to pay for your apps? Leave a comment below!

I’ve purchased most of the apps used in my classroom. Even when there are funds for apps available, the red tape associated with the purchase is ridiculous.

Not only do I buy all of my apps, but I also pay for my wifi in the classroom because the school wi fi is so weak I can’t stream. I got so tired of not following through on my lesson plans. I teach French and I can’t live without a strong bandwidth. I love your site.

    1. Wow. That’s dedication! How much is wifi? $30?

  3. I buy my own apps to test out, but the school is willing to listen to my suggestions and purchase ones every now and again for the kids.
